POSC 108 -- Politics of Race Immigration and Ethnicity in the U.S.

This course examines American politics in the light of shifting demographics, historical racial hostilities, and impending conflict played out in the political sphere. We begin with understanding racial and ethnic politics as group-based politics, where certain groups are placed hierarchically upon other groups. Dominant groups therefore seek to maintain their status, whereas subordinate groups seek to upend the status quo. This allows us to examine race and ethnic politics in the U.S. from less of an individualist lens and more of a group-centric lens.
